1 `((title . "FAQ") (subtitle . "Frequently asked questions"));` 2 - **What even is an "Operating System"?** 3 4 An operating system is the software interface that allows you to interact 5 with the hardware of a computer. Windows 10 and 11 are operating systems. It's 6 essentially the platform which your applications run on top of. 7 8 - **What is it that you do?** 9 10 I assemble and tailor a custom operating system to your personal needs. While 11 operating systems like Windows have an excessive amount of code designed to 12 cover a multitude of legacy edge cases - which often leaves it consuming far 13 more resources than necessary, difficult to configure and much more vulnerable 14 to viruses and other issues - my custom system is totally tailored to your 15 device's hardware. This means a significantly more stable, secure and fast 16 computing experience. 17 18 - **Do I need to get a new computer?** 19 20 In most cases, no! I can tailor an operating system to any existing device's 21 needs. 22 23 The only devices that are not able to be updated right now are computers with 24 chipsets other than x86_64 (although this will change in the future). If you 25 don't know what that means or you have an older device, you don't need to worry 26 about it. 27 28 - **Does it get pop-ups / viruses / or similar issues?** 29 30 While operating systems like Windows have a huge amount of legacy and bloated 31 code that make it more vulnerable to these sorts of issues, my custom operating 32 systems are based on a totally different software paradigm. The core of the 33 operating system is significantly more minimal and is assembled using a variety 34 of different independently tested parts. This means that the attack surface is 35 incredibly small - there is no way for viruses or pop-ups to appear simply 36 because they are not compatible with my systems. Even if you were to manually 37 download viruses and attempt to run them, you would not be able to get them to 38 work. Unless you were to explicity and manually open up a security hole in the 39 system, it remains immune to any external forces. It's that simple. 40 41 - **Does it go out of support, like Windows 10 did?** 42 43 This will absolutely never happen, ever. Because the system is based on 44 free (as in freedom) and open-source software, each part is independently 45 maintained and provided be a global network of volunteers and will continue to 46 receive updates as long as people are using it. Even if I were to die or go 47 bankrupt, your system would happily continue to update and maintain itself. My 48 custom operating system is like a tailored suit for your computer that dry 49 cleans itself. Even without internet, the system is very stable and will run for 50 a long, long time. 51 52 - **Is it stable?** 53 54 You can run a system for months without restarting it and it wouldn't have any 55 issues. Because the system is tailored to your device, it only ever does what it 56 needs to do. 57 58 - **What if I have more questions?** 59 60 Feel free to [contact me](/contact.html) with any questions you have!
